Actually, Thomas Paine said, "The real man smiles in trouble, gathers strength from distress, and grows brave by reflection." I have recently been engrossed on a blog called Fourth Grade Flipper; working together one change at a time. The creator is incredibly insightful and is an ongoing, lifetime learner. She believes, "It takes courage to make changes to our comfortable routines in our daily lives." I can REALLY connect and appreciate that statement. This new University of Saint Joseph (USJ) course on Computers in the Classroom is pushing me (although lovingly) to learn about the changes in technology. Technology takes me a bit out of my comfort zone, however, I am okay with that because an educator must be ready to embrace the challenges before them. I am a courageous person willing to be challenged, even if I may be slower at processing. The Fourth Grade Flipper has created a 'Tried it Tuesday' section on her blog. This includes a plethora (14) of links with diverse categories that might help a learner such as Apps, Assessment Ideas, Math Ideas, Read/Writing Ideas, Technology Tips, and Websites for Students just to name a few. I was intrigued by an App and online site she suggested called Penzu-classroom. So, I clicked over to check it out. It is a simple digital journal tool for teachers to manage student's documents without disrupting the original entry; not to mention it's FREE! Another incredible discovery was her Website for Students section. She linked into another blogger, elementaryschoolgarden.com, to explain StorylineOnline. Wow! This site is a read-a-loud of popular children's books by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation and showcases YouTube videos of famous actors reading these stories. What fun it was to listen & watch Rita Moreno read I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll. What presence she commanded as she read with such style and flair! StorylineOnline offers a total of 23 popular children's books read by Betty White, Melissa Gilbert, Ernst Borgnine, and Elijah Woods, just to name drop a few. It was incredible! The Fourth Grade Flipper blog offered so many useful 4th grade components, you just need to check it out for yourself...I know I will keep on watching!
