Creating a webpage?- The thought of creating this made me extremely nervous. I know what you are thinking; I’m taking my Master’s degree in Educational Technology so I should be confident and comfortable with this task. However, my insecurities in using digital technology have taken a strong hold over me since beginning this Master’s work last year. I have to say though, since last year, I have made tremendous strides in understanding and utilizing more digital technology than I have ever done before! I’m improving more and more each and every day. So, I’ve made outstanding digital growth and I’m really proud of my digital persistence and determination.
However, it was time to overcome my next hurdle of creating a website. I was introduced to this fantastic website called weebly.com. Weebly.com is a simple to use website that one can easily drag and drop building elements, insert one’s content, and publish. Even I can do that! Weebly offers numerous tools, templates, and ad-ons to invent endless creations.
My Weebly consists of four major “tabs” on the front of my site: Home, About Me, Blog, and More. My Home page is a welcoming to parents which introduces that I am a 4th grade teacher who is excited and eager to share my passion for learning through exploration and innovation. The About Me page consists of sharing some personal information about my family, the years I have been working as a teacher, and how to contact me in case of any questions or concerns a parent might want to share. My Blog page has personal opinion entries (also called posts) written about my beliefs and feelings on technology tools I have tried, videos I have created, a restaurant I have enjoyed, and more. The last tab, More, has eight subtopics to explore, such as Homework, STEP-UP, Readers’ Workshop, For Parents, 4th Grade Photo Gallery, etc., Each of these subtopics has a wide array of information for parents to learn and enjoy what’s new or exciting.
I am so pleased with the amount of effort I have taken to plan and organize this easy to use website. I am so encouraged by my efforts that I believe I am now ready to share my findings with my colleagues at Conte West Hills School in a Professional Development meeting. Do I still have more things to learn? Absolutely…learning is infinite.
