GoAnimate is an exciting website that allows one to create simple cartoon like videos. It doesn’t matter if you are a business, school, or an individual; this free (limited) website is for everyone! The easy-to-use drag and drop features, in creating videos, makes anyone feel like a pro. You could create these GoAnimate videos to make a friend laugh or use your creativity to explore endless video creations. The website offers a plethora of given templates, characters, props, backdrops, sound effects, etc., to work with. You are only truly limited by your imagination. If you really wanted to use your own voice in your GoAnimate videos that is also a possibility. I mentioned some of the positives of this creative website. Now let me explain some of its pitfalls. Well, the voices used are very robotic-like. If you have more than one character in a scene, only one can speak and move at a time. If you wanted to upgrade for more customized features on the GoAnimate website than one must pay. The free (limited) website is only good for 14 days and then your free subscription is over. If you wanted to do another free GoAnimate account you would have to create a new email address.
Once again, on the positive side of this creative website, my students and I have personally used it. My students were so excited to explore and design a video of their very own. I decided to let my students use this website as a culminating activity after learning all about the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people. Their task was to use what they researched from articles on scholastic.com and design a video using the knowledge they got from their research. I modeled for my class on the Smart board while they had a laptop at their desks. The students followed my direction through the features of the website and they were off!! Working in pairs on the laptops allowed them to collaborate together on what to include and how to build this animation.
If I were to score this website on a rating scale of 0-10 (0 being horrible and a waste of time to 10 a fantastic hit, no flaws) I would rate this website as a 6. The ease of creating these videos was fantastic but I am extremely disappointed in the short time frame of 14 days! The time frame is just too short! Let me just double check to see if my students’ creations still exist after my “allowed” 14 days…you are not going to believe this but…all of their videos are still stored under my account. Now I will have to revise my rating scale from a 6 to an 8!! I was so thrilled to see & hear my students’ creations were not destroyed. I would love for you to click on one of my students’ collaborated videos. This video below was created by Alexis Beall and Hector Rodriguez. Please enjoy!!
